Welcome to the Sound Therapy Network podcast, your ultimate resource for all things sound healing. Whether you’re a practitioner or a client eager to explore this magical healing modality, this episode has something for you. I’m your host, Niajae, owner of Bliss Bar Meditation Studio and creator of Somatic Sound Therapy. Today, we delve into how sound therapy, specifically with crystal singing bowls, can boost your body's happiness chemicals.

Crystal Singing Bowls and Brainwaves

Crystal singing bowls produce a pure tone, unchanging no matter the mallet or volume used. This consistency in tone and frequency can activate our brainwaves, particularly binaural beats, which many might recognize from computer-generated YouTube videos. By playing two similar singing bowls or the same note in different octaves, we can naturally achieve these frequencies. These specific frequencies can stimulate the release of happiness chemicals in our bodies.

Endorphins: Nature’s Pain Reliever

Endorphins are typically released during exercise as a natural pain reliever, allowing you to push harder. In a sound bath, specific frequencies can trigger endorphin release, relieving minor aches and pains simply by lying down and listening.

Dopamine: The Reward Chemical

Dopamine is released when we complete tasks, celebrate successes, or enjoy delicious food. It’s that feeling of elation many recognize as a “happy dance” after a good meal. Sound therapy can also trigger dopamine release, enhancing that sense of reward and pleasure.

Oxytocin: The Love Hormone

Oxytocin, often called the love hormone, is released during moments of love and affection, like when bonding with a pet, holding a baby, or sharing a nurturing hug. Sound therapy can stimulate oxytocin release, fostering feelings of love and connection.

Serotonin: The Mood Stabilizer

Serotonin helps stabilize our mood and is released during activities like meditation, sunbathing, or walking in nature. A sound bath can boost serotonin levels, leaving you feeling serene and balanced.

The Benefits of Sound Baths

If you’ve ever left a sound bath feeling like you’re on cloud nine, it’s due to these happiness chemicals being activated. Even though you’re just lying down, the frequencies from the bowls activate your brainwaves, creating a state of complete bliss. On stressful or heavy days, a sound bath can elevate your mood and bring you back to your happy place.
